Overview of WLAN

WLAN can be defined in both a broad sense and a narrow sense:

From a micro perspective, we define and analyze WLAN in both broad and narrow senses.

In a broad sense, a WLAN is a network made by replacing some or all of the wired LAN’s transmission media with radio waves, such as infrared, laser, etc.

In a narrow sense, this is a wireless LAN based on IEEE 802.11 series standards, which uses high-frequency radio frequencies to transmit signals, such as wireless electromagnetic waves in the 2.4GHz or 5GHz ISG band, as the transmission medium.

The WLAN network using IEEE 802.11 series standards is as follows:

In the evolution and development of WLAN, there are many technical standards for its implementation, such as Bluetooth, the 802.11 series, HyperLAN2, etc. The 802.11 series standard has become the main technical standard of WLAN because it is easy to implement, has reliable communication, is flexible, and doesn’t cost much to implement. The 802.11 series standard is also used as a synonym for WLAN technical standard.

As shown in the figure below, it can be simply understood as an overview of the connotation of WiFi functions.
