WLAN Terms

There are many nouns involved in WLAN. If you need to deeply understand the knowledge points of WLAN, you need to make a full professional explanation of each knowledge point so that you can understand this content more easily in the future.
Station (STA, for short).
1). The station (point), also known as the host or terminal, is the main control part of the network and the most basic component unit of the wireless LAN. It includes the following parts:
Hardware equipment: End-user equipment
The wireless network interface is a wireless network card.
Start network software (software controls hardware).
2) Access Point (abbreviated AP)
As a wireless access point, the basic functions of the AP are as follows:
As an access point, the STA associated with it can access the distributed system.
As an access point, it can connect to different stations in the same BSS so they can talk to each other.
As the control center of BSS, it controls and manages other non-AP stations.
As a bridge point between the wireless network and a distributed system, allowing wireless LAN and distributed systems to communicate.
3) Basic Service Set (abbreviated BSS)
It is used to describe a group of mobile devices that communicate with each other in an 802.11 WLAN. It can be understood as a wireless local area network (WLAN).
A BSS can have either AP or no AP, so there are two types of BSS:
One is the BSS with infrastructure mode, which includes an AP and several STAs. All STAs are associated with the AP;
The other one without infrastructure is the independent BSS, or IBSS for short, which is composed of several peer STAs;
Each BSS has a unique ID called BSSID.
