List of IEEE 802.11 Standards

For the IEEE802.11 protocol in WiFi, a large number of data queries are conducted, and the historical development is summarized as follows. The following summary is not a comprehensive and detailed record, but a description of the protocols currently used in the market.

IEEE 802.11, established in 1997, is the original standard (2Mbit/s, broadcast at 2.4GHz). Its speed is relatively slow, which lays the foundation for wireless protocols.
IEEE 802.11a was formulated in 1999. It is intended to supplement the physical layer (54mbit/s and the frequency band is 5GHz).
IEEE 802.11b, formulated in 1999, is a supplement to the 2.4GHz physical layer proposed by 11 (11mbit/s, broadcast at 2.4GHz).
IEEE 802.11g, 2003, physical layer supplement (54 mbit/s, 2.4GHz broadcast).
IEEE 802.11n. The transmission rate has improved under this protocol. The basic rate is increased to 72.2 mbit/s, and the double bandwidth of 40 MHz can be used. At that time, the rate was increased to 150 mbit/s. Support for multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) technology. This protocol jointly improves the frequency band between 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
IEEE 802.11ac, the potential successor of 802.11n, is the improvement of a higher transmission rate. When multiple base stations are used, the wireless rate is increased to at least 1 Gbps and the single channel rate is increased to at least 500 Mbps. Use a higher wireless bandwidth (80 Mhz-160 MHz, compared to 802.11n’s 40 MHz), more MIMO streams (up to 8), and a better modulation mode (QAM256). The formal standard was launched on February 18, 2012.

Among them, there is a special protocol. In addition to the above IEEE standards, another technology called IEEE 802.11b + provides a data transmission rate of 22mbit/s based on IEEE 802.11b (2.4GHz band) through pBCC technology.
