Network bridge function introduction

Routes are classified into three types: static route, dynamic route, and direct route.

In the method of manual input static routing, in order to solve the routing problem of the entire ip world, it is very weak in reality.

So, the experts thought of letting the router from the home, tell the nearby router, who I am next to, who I am next to, so that after the completion of a circle, the routing table is available, based on this principle, dynamic routing is generated.

The simplest dynamic routing protocol is called RIP, which is called “distance vector protocol”, and we currently use its upgraded version RIP2. When we say that a routing protocol is simple or complex, one of the criteria is the complexity of the “routing comprehensive cost” algorithm stipulated by the routing protocol, and the path cost algorithm of RIP2 is the simplest one.

In RIP2, routers send so-called “distance vector” information to neighboring routers every 30 seconds, and the routing table stores only the next-hop address of the best path to the destination site. RIP2 Selects the best path based on the minimum router hop count. For example, there are two routes between router A and router B. One route passes through 10 routers and the other route passes through 8 routers. RIP2 determines that the ip packet in A must pass through the second route to reach router B

RIP2 allows a maximum of 15 hops. More than 15 hops are considered unreachable. The new ipv6-based RIP protocol RIPng has improved the information format and address related aspects than RIP2.

Simplicity is both a strength and a weakness. For a huge IP network, only relying on the number of hops this distance parameter to choose a route, in many cases will be a bit of a chore. In the same example, router A arrives at router B’s path 1 with a seemingly large number of hops, but if the bandwidth is much larger than that of path 2, what will RIP2 do?

RIP2 will still stubbornly choose path 2. And in fact, path 2 is not optimal. Therefore, RIP is suitable for smaller networks, or at the edge of large IP networks.

Like some of our onu products, it is possible to configure this RIP dynamic routing protocol. Our other ONU products are: olt onu, ac onu, Communication onu, optical fiber onu, catv onu, gpon onu, xpon onu, etc., can make different support for different environments of the network, welcome to come to learn more.
